Note: You will need authorization from your IT department in order to be able to connect to a Server. If you have permission, use the following steps to connect to a server.
Step 1: Install the FileFlex Connector on the Server
From the server that you wish to add, complete the following:(Note: You must be already set up as a user with credentials for the server.) - From the server, remote desktop to the server or VPN to the server go to https://www.fileflex.com/downloads. Scroll down the page to Server Connectors and download the connector that correlates to the OS of your server.
- Run the installer you just downloaded and follow the on-screen instructions of the installation wizard. This installs the FileFlex Connector agent on your server. Once the agent is installed on the server, any device using FileFlex connected to the LAN can add that server as a content source.
Step 2: Link your FileFlex account to the Server.
NOTE: PC should be connected to the Server over the same network. - Next you must link your FileFlex account to the server. From your PC or mobile device with FileFlex already installed and connected to the server over the same network whether via LAN or Wi-Fi, open FileFlex.
- Select the 'Files' view in the left navigation menu
- In the My Content tab, select the large red '+" Add Content Source icon

- Select the Server icon and run the setup wizard.Note: You must be on the same network of the server being added, via either LAN or WiFi. After you have added the server as a content source, it can be accessed over the internet.
In the setup wizard, you will have the option to edit the following device settings - Network settings
- Proxy settings to access the Internet
- Anti-virus settings
To edit these or to define which antivirus software on the host machine will be used to scan an files uploaded to it, please refer to the section 'Device Settings'. Note: The antivirus software must already be installed and running with a valid license on the host machine
- The activation page will now appear that will link your server to your FileFlex account. You will need to enter the following credentials. (Note: The user must be already set up as a user on the Server with credentials in place. Users are created by the server administrator.) Username - This is the username of the credentials you use to access the server on the network. Password - This is the password of the credentials you use to access the server on the network. Domain (Optional if not part of a domain) - If your server is on a company or corporate domain, you will need to enter the domain that your server belongs to. Leave this blank if you are not sure or contact your IT department for your domain name. Activation Code - This code is entered automatically for you. For security reasons the code is time limited and will time-out if not used shortly. If the code does time-out, you will need to start again at Step 1. After you have entered your user credentials, click Activate.
Congratulations - You have connected FileFlex to your server. You can now remotely access any of the storage that is attached to that server. To do so, using FileFlex, open the server repository that you just created, navigate to the files and folders that you wish to access, then save it to your Favorites directory for easy future access.
You should continue connecting FileFlex to all your repositories by selecting Add More. If finished, click Done.
Device Settings
Note: You will need authorization from your IT department in order to add content repositories.
If you have permission to add your own content repositories, when adding a content repository via a FileFlex Connector such as a personal computer, NAS or server, you will be able to edit the device settings. Device settings allow you to edit:
- Network settings
- Proxy settings to access the Internet
- Anti-virus settings
Edit Device Settings When Adding a Content Source
Device settings are accessed when adding a content source as follows:
- From your FileFlex Desktop App, select the 'Files' view in the left navigation menu
- In the My Content tab, select the large red '+" Add Content Source icon.
- Select the device you want to add as a content repository, then click "Next".
- FileFlex will scan your device and network for active FileFlex connectors. Locate the device you wish to modify from the scanned list of "FileFlex Connectors on your Network" and click on it to select.
- A Link with "Edit Device Settings" will appear for the selected device.

- Click on the "Edit Device Settings" Link to begin.

- From your FileFlex Desktop App, select the 'Files' view in the left navigation menu
- Right-click (long touch for mobile) the content source that you want to edit
- Select Settings

Enable Network Browsing
The Enable Network Browsing radio button allows you to enable or disable network browsing. Network browsing is enabled by default. Network browsing enables users to browse all the devices on the same local network as the device being added that have sharing enabled within their operating system configuration.
Host Name Override (optional)
The host name override allows the renaming of the connector as it appears within FileFlex. For example, when adding a server, there may be other servers on the same network with similar names. Instead of using the default machine name that might be confusing, you can rename it as appropriate ie: Engineering Department NAS.
Default Domain (optional)
This can allow you to set the default domain name assigned to users when attempting to activate their connector access.
Proxy Settings to Access the Internet
Your organization or Internet service provider may offer or require you to use a proxy. A proxy acts as an intermediary between your computer and the Internet. It intercepts all requests to the Internet to see if it can fulfill the request using its cache. Proxies are used to improve performance, filter requests, and hide your computer from the Internet to improve security. Proxies are often part of corporate firewalls. By default the FileFlex connector agent is set to "Automatic" Proxy settings. This will automatically detect if a proxy server is in use on your network or not. If it detects that a proxy server is in use on your network it will try to use the Automatic defaults for your system and use the proxy. Generally these default settings work with no other intervention from you. In the event that the default settings fail, further configuration settings will be required from you or your IT department. Select Manual proxy configuration under the Proxy Settings to Access the Internet settings

No proxy: Choose this if you don't want to use a proxy.
Auto-detect proxy settings for this network: Choose this if you want FileFlex to automatically detect the proxy settings for your network.
Manual proxy configuration: Choose this if you have a list of one or more proxy servers. Ask your system administrator for the configuration information. Each proxy requires a hostname and a port number. - Choose the Proxy type and enter the proxy data. Click Save

Antivirus Settings

The antivirus settings allow you to define which antivirus software on the host machine will be used to scan an files uploaded to it. Note: The antivirus software must already be installed and running with a valid license on the host machine.
Windows Defender is the default antivirus software for Windows based platforms. You can also select ClamAV and F-Secure SAFE from the 'Select an antivirus' dropdown. Other platforms can be used by selecting CUSTOM from the dropdown, then in command box enter the command line for your antivirus software. You must refer to the documentation of your antivirus software to determine the command line for your software.

To disable antivirus scanning, choose 'None' in the 'Select an antivirus' dropdown.
When finished, click 'Save'.
Options
A right-click (long press for mobile) on a content repository will bring up the options available for that repository.

Repository Options
Delete – This will delete access to the repository for both the user and all share recipients.
Rename – Allows the user to change the name of the repository.
Change Icon – Allows the user to change the icon displayed for that repository.
Edit Properties – Allows the user to change the encryption options for that repository.
Get Info – Will display the used and available storage capacity for that repository, each of its drives and for attached USB storage devices.
Settings – This will allow the user with administrative credentials to the repository to change the device settings – network settings, proxy settings and anti-virus settings (for more information see 'Device Settings'.
Send Logs – This will allow the user to send a log file to the FileFlex customer support department if requested to aid in problem remediation.
